Roopa Modha

Meet Dr. Roopa Modha: A Journey of Passion, Purpose, and Global Impact.
Some spend their lives trying to fit into a single, well-defined identity. Dr. Roopa Modha chose a different path: she built her own global empire spanning multiple fields. An attorney with a Doctorate in Jurisprudence/Law (JD), an internationally recognized media personality, champion dancer, multi-disciplinary artist, and acclaimed humanitarian, Dr. Modha is a modern polymath. Yet, behind a staggering list of global accolades lies a story rooted in absolute resilience a narrative defined not by the obstacles she has faced, but by her refusal to let anyone else dictate the boundaries of her potential.

Turning Adversity into Audacity
Roopa’s journey into advocacy began on the heels of a profound personal challenge. A sports injury during a hockey game in gym class resulted in a chronic pain syndrome that she would have to conquer. Intellectually, she still shone in school despite not being able to attend regularly due to the pain, so she was met with unexpected skepticism from adults who failed to understand her condition. In a pivotal moment that would forever shape her resolve, her high school principal told her she would “never make anything” of herself and urged her to drop out. Instead of accepting defeat, Roopa chose defiance.
Driven by an unshakeable self-belief, she began taking courses at college as early as the ninth grade to ensure her academic trajectory remained uninterrupted. That early battle forged the cornerstone of her philosophy: nobody else gets to define your future and education roots you. Coming from a family of prominent medical, engineering, and technology professionals, she carved out her own distinct legacy by becoming the first attorney in her family. She laid a rigorous analytical foundation with 2 degrees - in Computer Science and Health: Science, Society, and Policy - before earning her JD. In addition to the JD, she earned two certificates - in intellectual property law and tax law - a combination never attempted at her law school.
A Global Voice and Creative Catalyst
Roopa simultaneously cultivated a massive footprint in international media and the arts. A prolific writer, journalist, lyricist, and author with thousands of published articles globally, she has also hosted for major networks worldwide. She recently founded AwaazArts, an initiative designed to serve as a voice for all individuals in the arts. Her creative pursuits have always been deeply intertwined with her philanthropic spirit. She authored the children’s book The Fish Who Wanted to go to School to support global literacy, and conceptualized the song and penned the lyrics to the empowering anthem “I Rise” (Agents of Harmony) to raise funds for girls' education. The song’s profound impact was crystallized when a listener reached out to share that the track’s message of resilience made her choose life over death. Most recently, Roopa added further literary acclaim to her name with the publication of her deeply moving poetry collection, Navarasa: The Colors of Life. Merging creative expression with classical theory, she also analyzes each poem using intricate Indian Rasa Theory. The quality of work earned her the prestigious Sahitya Ratna Samman 2026 honor.
Mastery of Motion and World Records
Dance is perhaps where Roopa’s discipline and reverence for heritage are most visibly on display. A highly trained dancer and choreographer, she possesses a rare, versatile mastery over classical Indian styles—including Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Odissi—as well as Ballet, Tap, Jazz, and Bollywood (having trained under the legendary Bollywood choreographer Saroj Khan). Her commitment to technical precision and cultural preservation led her to work closely as a lead teacher and assistant for the grand productions of the revered maestro Guru Madurai R. Muralidaran. Her breathtaking dedication to the art form has placed her on the global stage in a historic way: she has participated in around 50 successful world record dance events to date, including Guinness World Records.
Championing Change on the World Stage
Roopa’s lifelong dedication to humanitarian efforts eventually drew her to the world of pageantry—a sphere she initially never expected to enter. True to her nature, she embraced the challenge as a megaphone for social change, always utilizing her platform to advocate for women’s rights and girls’ education. She has won multiple pageant titles. Most recently representing the United States with elegance and substance, she was crowned the international Ms. Regal World 2025–2026 titleholder.
Her advocacy has consistently translated into tangible, historic results. Roopa’s advocacy while just a law student helped ultimately create legislative change in Connecticut that removed a marital rape exemption from the law. Her fierce commitment to global girls' education has seen her serve as an ambassador for powerhouse organizations like Girl Rising and Indian Dreams Foundation—spearheading campaigns that include raising $10,000 in just three days to fund the education of over 30 young girls. She has also supported various other charities and causes.
A Legacy of Leadership
The world has rightfully taken notice of Roopa’s visionary leadership. She was recognized as an Obama White House "Changemaker" and has been honored with the Presidential Gold Service Award. The Connecticut legislature and Malta House named her a "Wonder Woman," making her the youngest and only South Asian recipient of the honor that year. She has also earned countless awards from organizations around the world including Anokhi Award (Canada), Woman of Heart Award (UK), Pride of India Award (India), amongst numerous others.
Dr. Roopa Modha’s life is a masterclass in what happens when brilliant intellect meets boundless heart. What truly makes the journey inspiring is Roopa’s ability to balance success with purpose. Whether through law, media, dance, advocacy, or public speaking, she continues to inspire people worldwide with her confidence, leadership, and commitment to creating meaningful change. The team of Ms Venture appreciates her inspiring journey, impactful work, and visionary leadership, and wishes her continued success in all her future endeavors.
